Important information
Festivities to keep in mind:
NYEPI (Day of Silence) – March 29: Hindu ceremony
On this day, people in Bali cannot leave their homes, lights cannot be turned on, and there are no flights, boats, or cars available. It is a day of silence.
Tourists cannot leave the hotel and must remain inside from 6:00 AM on March 29 until 6:00 AM on March 30 (24 hours).
Hotels do not turn on lights in common areas, though guests may turn on lights in their rooms. Guests can only engage in activities within the hotel.
This celebration only affects Bali, not the rest of Indonesia.
Isra Miraj – April 3: Muslim ceremony. The Sultan’s Palace in Jogya will be closed.
Waisak / Vaisak – May 19: Religious ceremony of the Buddhists. There will be processions at the Borobudur Temple. The Borobudur, Mendut, and Pawon temples will be closed on May 18 and 19.
Ramadan – March 28 to April 27, 2025: Muslim ceremony.
During these holidays, there will be large crowds on the streets or in temples like Borobudur and Prambanan to celebrate. The Sultan's Palace in Jogya will be closed.
A week before Ramadan, many people will travel to their villages, and a week after Ramadan, people will return to their homes. During these weeks, expect heavy traffic.
A month before Ramadan, people fast, making it somewhat difficult to find restaurants for lunch. Dinner will be served normally. These conditions primarily affect Java and Sumatra, but in Bali, restaurants remain open as usual.
Idul Adha – June 6: Muslim religious ceremony and Independence Day – August 17, 2025: The Sultan’s Palace in Jogya will be closed.
The Sultan’s Palace is owned by the Sultan of Jogya's family. When there are private ceremonies, such as weddings or private ceremonies, the palace will be closed.
